Toronto Soccer Fans to Relaunch

The more observant among you may have noticed that Toronto Soccer Fans has been dormant for some time.
Various work/life changes have meant that there was insufficient time to keep this site updated to the extent that it deserved.

The Home game on Saturday was an opener in more ways than one. An Eye Opener. The passion of the crowd was fanstastic to see, and was reflected by most of the team. I am shortly relaunching this site as a suitable complement to that.

Tyler Rosenlund, a TFC Generation Adidas selection?

Tue 19th Dec, 2006 11:33am - rumour

There are strong suggestions that a Canadian, Tyler Rosenlund, will make the Generation Adidas scheme for 2007, with Toronto his plausible destination

MLS and the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) have a joint initiative started in 2000 called "Generation Adidas", formerly the funkier sounding 'Project 40'. The aim of this program is to fasttrack quality young players into MLS, usually out of college soccer, by removing risk from both sides of the equation. For the MLS teams the player does not count towards their senior roster allocations, for the player they guarantee academic scholarships if a career doesn't pan out.

Naturally this is a fairly USA-centric programme, as USSF have a vested interest in promoting young US talent, but the rumourmill is currently suggesting there may be a Canuck on the list this year, midfielder Tyler Rosenlund. The 20 year old B.C. native helped UC Santa Barbara to win an unlikely NCAA title this year, playing a vital role in turning round the Gauchos' poor start to the season. He knocked in all 3 goals in the quarters against Northwestern, had an important assist in the final against UCLA and made the All-Tournament team.

If the rumours are true that he is one of the Gen. Adidas players for this year, it would make sense that the frontrunners for his contract would be TFC. The nationality rules in MLS would make it the obvious choice, and no doubt the league are not beneath a few behind the scenes moves being made to bolster Toronto FC's side, and perhaps add some more patriotism to fuel the Toronto fans.
