Toronto Soccer Fans to Relaunch

The more observant among you may have noticed that Toronto Soccer Fans has been dormant for some time.
Various work/life changes have meant that there was insufficient time to keep this site updated to the extent that it deserved.

The Home game on Saturday was an opener in more ways than one. An Eye Opener. The passion of the crowd was fanstastic to see, and was reflected by most of the team. I am shortly relaunching this site as a suitable complement to that.

The Home Opener saw a sea of scarves. Lets make BMO Field into a sea of red shirts, and show your support for the team.

MLSE today announced the unveiling of the name for their new MLS Franchise

Toronto FC! MLSE today unveiled at a press conference that the new franchise will be simply called "Toronto FC".
Sadly, the information I am about to write had to be gleaned from the press, as upon arriving at the Ricoh Coliseum to witness the grand unveiling I was informed that "Fans and unofficial sites are not allowed to the press conference.".
Cheers Guys. Way to gain goodwill.
Anyway, I'm willing to assume that was just an overzealous security lady, and that TFC will be a fan-friendly organisation.

So, to the good stuff: The team colours will be red and white, with this logo: Toronto FC logo

The decision to not have an official moniker was deliberate according to Tom Anselmi, Executive VP and COO of MLSE: "The absence of a conventional sports nickname is deliberate. We wanted the whole city to feel ownership and we want to provide the opportunity for a meaningful nickname to emerge over time. " He can hope that won't come back to bite him in the ass, as nicknames are not always friendly.
So, hopes are high that this will be the first successful attempt to introduce pro soccer to Toronto, and with the global increase in popularity, certainly in North America, they may well be right. Hopes were also expressed that this might reinvigorate the grassroots game in Canada, lure players back from overseas, and catapult Team Canada onto the global stage. Lets not get ahead of ourselves now lads.
