Toronto Soccer Fans to Relaunch

The more observant among you may have noticed that Toronto Soccer Fans has been dormant for some time.
Various work/life changes have meant that there was insufficient time to keep this site updated to the extent that it deserved.

The Home game on Saturday was an opener in more ways than one. An Eye Opener. The passion of the crowd was fanstastic to see, and was reflected by most of the team. I am shortly relaunching this site as a suitable complement to that.

Nate Jaqua a Galaxian

In an unsurprising move, forward Nate Jaqua has been traded to LA Galaxy

Via torontoMls blog, Mo Johnston revealed on Sportsworld on The Score network that, amongst other things, Nate Jaqua has been traded to the LA Galaxy for a partial allocation of $125,000.

MoJo had made no secrets since the expansion draft that he viewed Jaqua as a trade player, and the forward had recently been on a few European tryouts, so his departure is not a huge surprise. What is does serve to do is highlight the absolute dearth of forwards that Toronto have, with the restless Buddle the only option who knows where the sticks are, and even he has had his issues in recent times.

With 7 goals in 90 MLS appearances, attacking midfielder Jose Cancela is hardly a source of regular scores, although Johnston did reveal that rumours of his departure have been greatly exxagerated, and he will be wearing the red next season.

On the 'not coming' list is Atiba Hutchinson ($3m is too expensive), Tomas Radzinski (too pricey), DeRo (too Europe-bound). While we cannot afford 3 mil, we have the $1m allocation from MLS with additional $350k from trades. Finally, we should expect 5-6 new signings in the near future, including a young Canadian.

All in all, there was nothing there that hadn't been foreseen, but nice to get closure on the Jaqua front, and interesting to get precise figures on the mysterious MLS allocation system.
