A Story on The Football Association of England’s Website (Psychology - Field Dependency)
This story has striking resemblances to Toronto FC’s current difficulties playing away.
The Camouflaged Team
One wintry afternoon, a British club - the league leaders – travelled to play a club who were placed near the bottom of the league.
Both teams’ kits were similar, so the away team had to play in its new away strip. The shirts and shorts were both light gray, quite different to the brightly coloured combination of red shirts and white shorts. That the players usually wore.
At half time the league leaders went into the dressing room four goals down. The players complained that they couldn’t make out their team-mates against the background of the crowd.
The Manger agreed that they had to change their gray kit.
For the second half, with the permission of the referee, the away team ran out onto the pitch with a blue and white striped outfit.
The final score was 6 – 3 for the home team, the team from the bottom of the league.
Although the league leader’s performance improved dramatically in the second half, they still lost the game, and all because the players struggled to pick out their team-mates in the first half!
What are the home and away colours of Toronto FC’s kits?
Does Toronto FC also have difficulties playing away? Why?
How many teams use light dull grey or light dull colours as the main colour on their jersey?
Could it all be Psychological? |
